Detailed information on Bracelet, unmarked 800? silver, hand engraved & signed by maker, April 3, 1882

This interesting little bracelet is hand engraved & signed by the silversmith, “J.R.”, (for either John Round or James Richardson.) The slide/pressure clasp is unusual, and is marked, “Reg. April 3, 1882”. However, the silver content is unmarked.

The silver may be an 800 or 900 silver, as it has a very slight golden patina.

The hinge is also a bit unusual for bracelets of that time - it is more like a door hinge than a jeweler’s hinge in design. Perhaps this was the jeweler’s prototype? And even though it is hand engraved, the clasp seems to have been the jeweler’s main focus with this piece.

At any rate, this is a pretty piece of history for your wrist. The bracelet is 1/2” wide, ovoid, and 2” x 2 1/2”.
