✔ This vintage Rahrah Soumak from northwest Persia embodies the rhythmic precision and earthy elegance of mid-century tribal weaving. Handwoven in the 1960s from hand-spun wool naturally dyed with roots and plants, it features the signature Rahrah stripe design — alternating horizontal bands filled with intricate geometric motifs, small crosses, and symbolic stars.
The palette glows in terracotta and rust, softened by touches of olive green, indigo blue, walnut brown, and ivory. The floral border frames the composition beautifully, lightening the dense geometry of the field and adding a lyrical balance.
Soumak rugs differ from kilims through their brocaded flatweave technique, in which colored yarns are looped horizontally around pairs of warp threads. This creates a subtle, raised texture and a slightly thicker, more architectural surface. The result is both visually intricate and durable, making this piece equally suited for the floor or as a textile wall hanging.
