This kilim was made in the traditional Anatolian manner of two joined twin parts woven from a narrow loom, possibly by a semi nomadic pastoralist group. Judging from the use of cotton and cochineal dye, the piece would have originated from the Adana region of southern Turkey - the group known collectively as either Rashwan or Reyhanli. The kilim has been used as a hanging tapestry evidenced from the brass curtain hoops attached verso and is therefore preserved in almost perfect condition.
