100% Finest Wool

Hand knotted in the ways of the Taznakht tribes who have been making rugs for as long as they have been rearing sheep. With deep roots in the geographical, social and cultural context of the Drâa-Tafilalet region, these rugs speak of an ancient way of life translated into colourful patterns.

These rugs are created knot by knot with ancient techniques passed down from mother to daughter throughout the generations and are made from the famously high quality wool of the Siroua sheep breed which is coloured with natural pigments from plants like saffron, henna and pomegranate. The wool of the Siroua gives the deepest of blacks and purest of whites that together with the natural dyes make Tazknacht rugs most often have a muted earthy tone with elements of bold details in indigo etc.

The tradition of weaving in Taznakht started with making djellabas (robes), decorative belts and other smaller personal items but they quickly found themselves transitioning into rugs which in the beginning were exclusively owned by important people of high standing as a symbol of luxury and social rank.

The women sing and perform traditional rituals during their work on these rugs and these ceremonies are an important illustration of ancestral beliefs and customs relating to the philosophical question of being one with the universe. The symbols they knot into the Taznakht rugs are expressions of semiological language. These words become symbols, architectural motifs, landscapes, animals, triangles, squares, rhombuses and zigzags. All of this come together in harmony to create some of the most sought after rugs in North Africa.

We work closely with our artisans to make these rugs special. As you will see, they are truly pieces of art that elevate any interior, complementing both modern and bohemian design language. No matter which pattern you choose, know that your rug will give your home an incredibly cozy feeling for many years to come.
