Ugo Correani Rare Two Strand Oversized Hand Knotted Faux Glass Pearl Necklace featuring hand knotted faux glass pearls, the longer strand in baby pink and the shorter strand in white, and all with a lovely satin lustre. The shortest strand measures 44cm long (wearable length) and the faux glass pearls are all a statement size of 1.8cm diameter, and the necklace weighs a hefty 126.5g. The wonderful Correani used his distinctive silver tone ridged slide clasp for this necklace, which is signed \'U. CORREANI\'. A beautiful necklace in very good condition.
Ugo Correani was born in 1935 in Frascati, Italy. At 20 years old Correani moved to Milan to work in the atelier of Germana Marucelli. In 1973 fashion designer Walter Albini convinced him to use his creativity in accessories, and from then Correani specialised in making necklaces, bracelets and earrings. His jewellery was often inspired by nature and he used materials such as driftwood, coral and stones. Correani designed the opulent pearl-draped jewelry for Karl Lagerfeld’s very first haute couture collection at Chanel in 1983 and collaborated with Lagerfeld at Chloé.
In 1976, Correani started a long professional relationship with Gianni Versace, also becoming a close friend of him. In 1984, they also began collaborating with La Scala making the costumes and the jewellery for its theatre productions. Correani used to say \"The day that I die I want to be buried in a red suit and a shirt by Versace.\" He also collaborated with Valentino, Chanel, Fendi, Chloé, Christian Lacroix among others. Sadly Correani died on 18 September 1992 of a heart attack in his house in Milan. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece by the highly revered Ugo Correani - some in the upper echelons of the haute couture circles regard him as the best.
