PATRON SAINT OF EXPECTANT MOTHERS AND THOSE WHO WISH TO CONCEIVE

THE LIFE OF SAINT GERARD: Born to a life of poverty in Italy in 1726 in a family of seven, Gerard was kind and generous from a young age. When he began work as a tailor, he split his earnings between his mother and the poor of the parish. He fasted and prayed frequently. He became a priest at the age of twenty-three.

Gerard has many miracles credited to him, but it was his last known miracle for which he is most revered. He had dropped his handkerchief in the street and a young girl stopped to pick it up and return it to him. He told her to please keep it, \"you may need it someday.\" Years later when she was married and with child, she went into a painful early labor and was at risk of losing her baby. She asked for the handkerchief to be brought and placed upon her. Immediately her pain abated and she soon gave birth to a healthy baby.
