This Victorian agate cross pendant is a striking example of late 19th-century devotional jewellery, carved from richly banded agate with natural layers of honey, caramel, and deep brown tones. The stone has been carefully shaped to emphasise its linear banding, allowing the organic patterning of the agate to become the defining feature of the piece. Suspended from a simple silver mount and bail, the design balances bold material presence with restrained metalwork.
Agate was highly valued during the Victorian period for both its visual depth and its symbolic associations with protection, strength, and grounding. Cross pendants of this era were commonly worn as personal expressions of faith, remembrance, or quiet devotion, often chosen for their durability and meaningful materials rather than ornament alone.
The pendant comes with a new sterling silver belcher chain, adjustable from 18–20 inches (45–50 cm).
