The E30 M3 was built directly from motorsport. With it\'s multiple victories in touring car racing, the M3 became one of the most iconic vehicles in the M line-up. The first M3 was based on the E30 3 Series and was intended to please the Deutsche Tourenwagen Meisterschaft (a touring car racing series \"DTM\") and Group A Touring rules.The E30 M3 was only built as a coupé or convertible and with changes to it\'s aerodynamics, it had a relatively low drag coefficient compared to the regular 3 Series. This M3 while being naturally aspirated, had competed in many motorsports and had won the 24 Hours Nürburgring five times, and the Spa 24 Hours four times, while competing against turbocharged cars. This M3 featured changes over the standard E30 such as a larger rear spoiler, deep front splitter, and flared wheel arches. Almost every body panel was altered as well as the angle of the C-pillar and rear window to improve airflow towards the spoiler. Along with aerodynamic add-ons made from plastic to reduce weight as much as possible. Multiple changes during it\'s production years were made for each Evolution of the M3 from revised cylinder heads, to higher horsepower, to higher engine displacement, to deeper front splitters.
