Studio Kii is a workshop by Toshiaki Umemoto, a wood craftsman. Umemoto worked as a hairdresser and a lacquerware manufacturer before establishing his studio in 2012. With his studio in Wakayama, he creates works using plywood and tree trunks. With a deep understanding of the characteristics of each material, Umemoto handcrafts his pieces. While there is no particular purpose for each piece, the works are straightforward and strong. Although simple and highly detailed, his works may appear at first glance to have been made by a machine, they are entirely handmade, demonstrating the quality of his modeling skills.
