Since Moonstar’s establishment in 1873, their mission has been to craft comfortable shoes tailored to each individual. Situated in Kurume, a town that prospered as a hub for the rubber industry, particularly in the production of Jika-tabi (Japanese traditional split-toe footwear), Moonstar has consistently crafted shoes for an extensive period. The footwear from Moonstar’s own Kurume factory reflects the technology and experience cultivated over many years.

The concept/brand of “Shoes like Pottery” involves using vulcanization or “ka-ryu.” Each shoe undergoes a process akin to firing in a kiln, causing the sulfur mixed inside the raw rubber to create a durable, soft, and flexible material. Ka-ryu is only performed by a select handful of shoe manufacturers in the world.
