These collectible cards often featured lively seasonal imagery meant to delight families and draw them back into the shop.

The artwork on Snowday comes from one such trade card: two children rolling a giant snowball across fresh winter snow as a little dog joyfully bounds beside them. This playful illustration reflects the Victorian era’s fascination with childhood innocence, outdoor merriment, and richly colored lithographic prints that made store cards treasured souvenirs.

To elevate this piece of retail history, the candle’s background features decorative motifs drawn from Owen Jones’s The Grammar of Ornament (1856)—a foundational design work celebrating global pattern, geometry, and color harmony.
