Snowday — 8.5 oz scented candle
Step back into the charm of a 19th-century winter with Snowday, a candle wrapped in authentic vintage art from one of Philadelphia’s historic dry-goods merchants, Cooper & Conard. Operating at the bustling corner of Ninth & Market Street in the late 1800s, Cooper & Conard was known for its beautifully printed trade cards—small illustrated keepsakes given to customers as tokens of appreciation. These collectible cards often featured lively seasonal imagery meant to delight families and draw them back into the shop.
The artwork on Snowday comes from one such trade card: two children rolling a giant snowball across fresh winter snow as a little dog joyfully bounds beside them. This playful illustration reflects the Victorian era’s fascination with childhood innocence, outdoor merriment, and richly colored lithographic prints that made store cards treasured souvenirs.
To elevate this piece of retail history, the candle’s background features decorative motifs drawn from Owen Jones’s The Grammar of Ornament (1856)—a foundational design work celebrating global pattern, geometry, and color harmony. The combination creates a label that is both historically grounded and visually captivating.
Hand-poured with clean-burning coconut–apricot wax, cotton wicks, and phthalate-free fragrances, Snowday brings warm light and a touch of antique winter magic to your home.
Please review our candle care guideline page. With proper attention, your 8.5 oz candle will burn up to 55 hours.
