An elegant Victorian necklace circa 1880 featuring crisply faceted jet drops in a waterfall arrangement on yellow gold cable chain. As the drops dance on the chain light moves across the triangular facets, setting off a glittering display both discreet and dramatic.
Jet is essentially a type of fossilized wood, like coal, and has been used in jewelry since the Neolithic period; it became especially popular in the 19th century for mourning jewelry due to it\'s inky color, light weight and the ease with which it can be carved.Details: With an approximate 18 1/2\" necklace length and an additonal 1 5/8\" drop at the center pendant. The clasp is marked for 10k.
Condition: In excellent antique condition, jet drops have a few very tiny nibbles noticeable only with magnified inspection.
