The Maker’s Story: A Labor of Meaning

When we set out to craft this piece, we didn’t want to simply replicate a symbol—we wanted to honor it. Our goldsmith began by choosing a single strip of 14K white gold with a high sheen and excellent malleability.

Working under magnification, we hand-drew the Hebrew characters, paying close attention to the traditional script’s unique balance of grace and weight. 

Next came the hand-cutting process. Every curve and line of the “ח” and “י” was shaped with a fine jewelers’ saw—slowly and intentionally. This wasn’t about speed; it was about reverence.

The angles were refined, edges softened, and the entire piece was lightly domed to reflect light with subtle movement. Once the form was complete, the Chai symbol was soldered securely onto a white gold chain so it would lay flush against the chest—centered and grounded.

Finally, we hand-polished the pendant to a soft, glowing finish that catches the light just enough to remind you it’s there—without ever demanding attention. It’s understated, but deeply felt.
