How does this device work?

In a photocatalytic air purifier system, the air is cleaned by a titanium dioxide catalyst that is energized by ultraviolet light. UV light shines on the titanium dioxide, releasing electrons at its surface. The electrons get in contact with water molecules in the air, breaking them up into hydroxyl radicals, which are highly reactive, short-lived, uncharged forms of hydroxide ions. These hydroxyl radicals then affect bigger organic pollutant molecules like viruses, germs, bacteria; pathogens, etc., breaking apart their chemical bonds and turning them into harmless substances.
