The first ASICS Superblast rewrote what a training shoe could be. No plate, no compromises — just a towering stack of responsive foam that could handle easy miles and fast efforts with equal confidence. Runners noticed. Then everyone noticed. Then it sold out everywhere.
The Superblast 3 is the version that earns that reputation all over again.
ASICS made one decisive move for v3: bringing FF Leap — the most advanced foam in their racing fleet, found in the Metaspeed Tokyo and Metaspeed Ray super shoes — into an everyday trainer. The result is a shoe that delivers a 15.4 percent increase in energy return compared to the Superblast 2, with a 1.5mm taller stack height and yet 10 grams less weight. More cushion. More response. Less shoe to carry.
This is the one-shoe rotation option for runners who refuse to settle.
FF Leap + FF Blast Plus — The Dual-Layer Midsole
The Superblast 3 midsole is an exercise in intelligent engineering. FF Leap is 33% lighter and 13% more responsive than FF Blast, while still offering enough cushioning for daily training. It forms the dominant upper layer of the midsole — delivering the softness, bounce, and energy return associated with ASICS\' fastest race shoes.
Beneath it, a firm 10mm lower layer of FF Blast Plus with a rise at the medial midfoot keeps any mush or instability in check — grounding the ride and giving runners a reliable, composed platform even as the upper foam gives back energy with every stride.
Diamond Forefoot Bounce Pod — Engineered Propulsion
A diamond-shaped design channeled into the top of the FF Leap layer, positioned just behind the toes, allows the foam to compress more independently in that zone — creating a more dynamic and responsive toe-off. It\'s a small detail that shows up in a big way when you decide to push the pace.
Engineered Woven Upper — Structured and Breathable
The engineered woven mesh upper is stiffer and surprisingly structured due to interwoven overlays, with a fit that is wider than prior versions and slightly higher volume — correcting the cramped toe box that affected earlier Superblast models. A redesigned lacing system with cord loops rather than traditional eyelets allows for a personalized, secure lockdown without the need to overtighten.
