HOT ! \"Unkown Treasure\" - Pair of Men\'s Tan Slippers (Possibly from \"Young Bess\")

Description

Add a touch of classic Hollywood craftsmanship to your collection with this pair of men’s tan-colored period-style slipper shoes, believed to be from the production of Young Bess (1953). These distinctive, stage-appropriate slippers feature: a straight throat for a clean period silhouette; three oblong green cloth appliqués sewn onto each vamp; a warm tan leather exterior with period styling details.  The right shoe bears a mostly worn insole inscription, consistent with vintage use.  The left shoe features a white sticker adhered to the sole, marked: \"M176751/14\" in blue ink.

Acquired directly from Sotheby’s Beverly Hills, Lot 540, in their May 21, 1997, auction. This lot included other costume items from Young Bess, and the auction listing stated that the slipper-style shoes “...appear to have been from the same production; the slipper style shoes... appear to match the shoes found in the original costume sketch.”

Condition

Right Shoe: Shoe is crushed and stained throughout.  Strings are frayed on edges of cloth decoration.  Heavy wear and accretions on insole.  Sole is lightly worn.

Left Shoe: Shoe is crushed and stained throughout.  Strings are frayed on edges of cloth decoration.  Heavy wear and accretions on insole.  Lining is separating from shoe.  Toe is crushed. Sole is lightly worn.
