This striking armchair is a 19th-century reinterpretation of the iconic \"fauteuil Dagobert,\" designed in the Renaissance Revival style and inspired by medieval ceremonial seating with a rich historical lineage. Crafted in solid walnut, the chair boasts a beautifully aged warm patina that highlights the natural grain and gives depth to its richly carved surfaces—a testament to time and careful use.

The structure is marked by the signature curule base, with its sweeping, circular form and interlaced cross supports, reminiscent of ancient Roman seating adopted by medieval kings. The arms rise and flow with a graceful, scrolling movement, adding fluidity to the otherwise architectural form, and terminate in expressive carved sirens whose mythological allure adds both drama and finesse.

The upper back rail is crowned with a grand shell motif, surrounded by scrolling foliage and decorative flourishes that complete its sculptural presence. While primarily decorative today, the chair retains old repairs, discreet and in keeping with its age, that do not detract from its charm. A loose cushion can be added for comfort, and it makes a perfect perch for lacing shoes, setting bags, or adding character to an entryway. Reinforced at the back with a discreet metal support, it is best placed against a wall, where its silhouette and carvings can be fully appreciated.
