A set of four AP50 armchairs designed by Hans J. Wegner for AP Stolen, one of the most respected Danish workshops of the mid-century period. The chairs are beautifully crafted in solid teak and upholstered in a textured green tweed wool, with makers’ marks to the underside. All four are in excellent condition.

The frame of the AP50 is architectural and solid with square posts, softened edges, and Wegner’s characteristic attention to the meeting points where timber and upholstery interact. The angled back, generous armrests and wide seat make the chairs exceptionally comfortable, intended for long sitting (they were originally used in meeting rooms, libraries and reception spaces).

Hans J. Wegner (1914–2007) is widely regarded as one of Denmark’s most important furniture designers. Trained as a cabinetmaker, he brought an uncompromising craftsmanship to every piece he created. His long collaboration with master upholsterer A. P. Stolen produced many of his most significant works, including the Papa Bear chair (AP19), the Teddy Bear chair and the AP series. AP Stolen’s workshop became known for its precision and its ability to realise Wegner’s sculptural forms with exacting detail.

The AP50 armchair sits within this lineage: elegant, robust and deeply functional. The green tweed wool suits the frame perfectly, giving the set a warm, welcoming presence without overpowering the simplicity of the design.
