Designed for those who treat life as the ultimate adventure, the Seiko Prospex line meets every challenge with technological excellence and style. Celebrating Seiko\'s first precision chronographs, developed for international sporting competitions in 1964, as well as its 1969 introduction of the world\'s first automatic chronograph, this distinctive watch provides chronograph measurement of up to 30 minutes of elapsed time in 1/8-second increments.
This new Limited Edition Speedtimer is inspired by the legendary Datsun 240Z rally car, and is powered by Seiko\'s own 8R48 movement which includes a column wheel and vertical clutch mechanism allowing for smooth, stutter-free movement of the chronograph hand while providing longer wear and efficiency, and improving maintenance of the power reserve during chronograph operation. Crafted of stainless steel with super-hard coating, specially designed pushers and crown for ease of use, tri-fold push button release clasp, and dual curved sapphire crystal with anti-reflective coating on the inner surface.
The new case is produced using Seiko’s latest watchmaking technologies to create a classic and refined construction. The case feature hairline and polished finishing, and the hammer-shaped push buttons used to operate the stopwatch function provide high operability.
Unique to this reference, the chronograph features a tachymeter scale located on the outer bezel for enhanced legibility and a sporty aesthetic. Furthermore, the scale used allows for measuring speeds from 50km/h to 60 km/h, paying homage to the original Speedtimer bezel format from 1969.
Launched in 1969, the Datsun 240Z became a worldwide hit, not only in Japan but also in North America. With the aim of demonstrating its high performance as a sports car, the Datsun 240Z began to participate in world rally competitions. Seiko, sharing Datsun’s spirit for taking on challenges, supported the Datsun 240Z in motorsports activities in the early 1970s.
