This vintage Navajo bracelet has three large Kingman turquoise nuggets, set in silver bezels and framed by decorative silver raindrops. Kingman turquoise, from the Kingman mine in Arizona, is famous for its vivid blue-green colors.
The Kingman mine is one of the oldest and largest turquoise mines in the U.S., with mining dating back over 1,000 years (prehistoric Native use) and commercial production since at least the late 19th century. Since it’s still open, modern Kingman turquoise is available, but large, natural nugget forms are increasingly uncommon in contemporary production.
The heavy silver band is wide and decorated with deep hand-stamped and repoussé (raised) patterns. The silver has naturally darkened over time, creating a rich vintage patina that highlights the details of the design. Stamped ‘K’, attributed to Michael Kabotie, Hopi silversmith.
