HOT ! Soapstone Nativity

Soapstone Nativities from Kenya have arrived just in time for Christmas! Aren\'t they beautiful? Each set features twelve pieces including baby Jesus, Mary, Joseph, three wise men, two shepherds, an ox, a sheep, a donkey, and an angel. These are carved by hand so each set will look a bit different and is not identical to the picture. The coloring of each set varies. Some are fully cream while others have splashes of pink, yellow, and purple decorating the cream color.

What is soapstone?

Soapstone is a metamorphic rock consisting mostly of the mineral talc. It is a relatively soft stone, a calcium carbonate.

As the talc in soapstone is soft to the touch, it gives you the smooth feeling of rubbing a piece of dry soap. Thus, the name was derived as “soap” stone.
